From Rushed to Refined: A Home That Finally Feels Complete

Like many people, the client had to rush through their renovation during the pandemic, making quick decisions under pressure. While the house was functional, it never truly felt finished—something was missing. They longed for a sense of warmth, cohesion, and a space that genuinely reflected their lifestyle.

The design brief was to bring that missing sense of completeness, transforming the house into a home that felt considered, harmonious, and effortlessly functional.

Our approach focused on thoughtful space planning, layered lighting, and a bespoke joinery feature that would seamlessly connect the old and new parts of the house. A key part of this transformation was replacing the tired, beigy tones and the high-contrast dark blue kitchen, which felt too heavy for the space. In its place, we introduced a soft sage-green kitchen—bringing in calm, warmth, and timeless elegance. This choice not only softened the interior but also established a visual connection to the lush greenery outside, subtly drawing the garden into the home. To add depth and balance, rich walnut furniture was incorporated, infusing the space with natural warmth. Sheer curtains helped to soften the winter light, filtering out the grey skylight and adding a gentle, welcoming glow.

Another key element of the redesign was addressing an impractical door that disrupted the flow of the space. Rather than keeping it as an unused feature, we transformed it into a smartly positioned window, allowing more natural light to filter in while improving the room’s layout. This change, combined with a bespoke window seat, introduced a casual dining nook—perfect for sipping coffee, catching up on the day’s moments, or simply enjoying a connection to the garden while cooking.
